LOBBYING FIRM

This was the final project for our sophomore commercial design class, CTD 226. We were given the existing floor plan of an office building that actually existed nearby in Tuscaloosa. It was an older building, so many spaces were not compliant with ADA guidelines. While having the freedom to make any non-structural changes desired, we had to renovate any area that did not comply with ADA guidelines. In addition, we had to add in a fire escape and elevator, which was meant to be a challenge considering the building’s plan.

Aside from designing the layout, we were instructed to create an imaginary lobbying firm with a mission of our choice. Then, we extracted a concept object from the firm’s mission to steer our design choices. The lobbying firm I created advocated for having daylight savings time all year round. From there, I made design choices that transpired the benefits of DST inside the space, such as productivity and wellness.
