This was the intro project for our sophomore commercial design class, CTD 226. We worked with an existing floor plan developed by our teacher. The purpose of this project was to design a waiting room that was only going to be used for a few months. Because it wasn’t a permanent space, I had to consider a unique set of perimeters while making my design decisions. Most items would be used in the company’s future building; therefore, ease of furniture portability was a vital necessity. I found it essential to create a residential feel within this commercial space. Oftentimes, reception areas can feel sterile and unwelcoming. To prevent that, I incorporated natural materials, furniture variation, and warmth through decorative lighting.
